Climate change
Climate change threatens our ability to ensure global food security, eradicate poverty and achieve sustainable development. Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from human activities and livestock farming are a major driver of climate change as they trap heat in the earth's atmosphere and trigger global warming.
Climate change has both direct and indirect effects on agricultural productivity, such as changed precipitation patterns, drought, floods and the geographical redistribution of pests and diseases. The enormous amounts of CO₂ absorbed by the oceans lead to acidification, which has an impact on the health of our oceans and the people whose livelihoods and nutrition depend on them.
